OTTUMWA:

April 13, 2020 - Ottumwa City Hall will remain closed to the public until further notice.  If you have specific business to conduct with city staff, please call ahead for further instruction at 641-683-0600. City administration has taken a serious approach to this pandemic.  Staff was advised to monitor proper distancing and increase cleaning of common surfaces throughout the day.  We continue to follow the guidelines of the CDC, Governor Reynolds, and Wapello County Emergency Management and the Wapello County Public Health Department.

The current practice for ill employees (per medical advice) was to be home for three days following the end of symptoms without the need for medication –but no less than seven days since the beginning of symptoms.  Earlier this week we added language specific to positive or suspected positive COVID-19 results which required those individuals to be off for a minimum of fourteen days.

Since receiving notification of an employee with a positive test on Friday morning, employees were sent home and City Hall was shut down for the day to allow for a more thorough cleaning of the building.  Further, we have been advised that only employees who have had direct contact with the individual for a period of thirty minutes or more should self-quarantine.

Employees who are not subject to quarantine requirements will be expected to wear a mask while moving through the building.  This is in addition to the previous protocols of social distancing, hand washing, and extra cleaning.  Additionally, the City will increase the use of distance meetings during the closure period.
